We've had a busy two weeks back to school!
Last week we went to the library to learn about the nonfiction sections. Students may begin checking out books from those sections now!
We've also been learning a lot about regrouping and beginning multidigit addition. Here's an example of what we've been practicing:
Yesterday we also began something called Team Time! It's an opportunity once a week for students to get some extra help when they really don't get something, a little bit more practice, or for a challenge for those who do understand. The students will be divided up among all of the second grade teachers to meet their needs more individually. For the next couple week's our focus will be telling time to the 5-minute.
In writing, we're getting ready to publish next week! I will be scanning in some of the students poems for you to view once we have published! Stay tuned for that!
In reading, we're finish up our lessons for nonfiction text. The students have been doing a wonderful job with their end of 2nd quarter reading assessments. I am very impressed with all the progress everyone is making! We were also surprised wtih a Mystery Reader last week. I give the students clues throughout the week. This week's clues were:
- My favorite cartoon character is Snoopy.
- I wear glasses only when I read.
- I have 3 children and 2 dogs.
- My last name has a double letter in it.
- I can help you communicate.
- Red is my favorite color and there are small red creatures all over my classroom.
And our Mystery Reader was...
Mrs. Crabb!
Wednesday afternoon the students had a substitute. They were reading a book about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It turns out she marched with Dr. King! It was a wonderful time for the students to learn about her experiences!
